Gleadless housing is dominated by post-war council-built semis and terraces from the 1950s and 60s, with Gleadless Valley itself an architectural landmark as one of the UK's largest post-war social housing estates. Almost every property had concrete interlocking tiles originally fitted, and now — 60+ years on — we're re-roofing them in job lots. The typical spec: strip off the old tile and underlay, fit breathable membrane, new treated battens, and new concrete interlocking (Marley Modern, Redland 49, or Sandtoft Calderdale Edge) fixed to BS 5534.
Weather & Wind Exposure
Gleadless sits at altitude — the higher parts of the estate are around 220m above sea level — and faces the prevailing westerly winds. We always specify dry-fix ridge systems and mechanical verge fixings on re-roofs here.
