Local Roofing Knowledge — Chesterfield
Chesterfield's housing stock runs the full gamut — the town centre has genuine medieval and Tudor properties (which we don't touch unless the owner has a conservation-accredited main contractor leading the work), through Victorian terraces around Whittington Moor, into extensive post-war housing in Brockwell, Walton and Holmebrook. We do a lot of slate work in Chesterfield — the town has a higher-than-average proportion of natural slate roofs surviving, and many are now due either re-slating or selective repair to extend their life. We're Welsh slate specialists and we'll always quote like-for-like rather than pushing a cheaper Spanish or Chinese substitute.
Weather & Wind Exposure
Chesterfield is a touch more sheltered than Sheffield — the Pennines are further west and the town sits in the valley of the Rother. Wind isn't usually the main enemy; it's age. A lot of the roofs we re-slate in Chesterfield have reached the end of their fixing life simply through time, not weather. That's actually good news for the homeowner: we can almost always reclaim and re-use around 70% of the original slates, which brings costs down significantly.
