Local Roofing Knowledge — Dronfield
Dronfield is largely a commuter town — lots of detached and semi-detached housing from the 1960s through 1990s, with the older village core of Dronfield Woodhouse and Coal Aston still keeping some stone-built, slate-roofed cottages. The post-war and 70s/80s housing tends to have concrete interlocking tiles on it — Redland Regent, Marley Ludlow Major, Sandtoft Double Roman — which are all reaching the stage where wholesale strip and recover is cheaper than ongoing repair. The older stone cottages need careful, conservation-minded work: matching reclaimed stone slate (Yorkshire stone, not Welsh), lime mortar bedding, proper consideration of the character of the village. We do both, and we're careful to match the approach to the property.
Weather & Wind Exposure
Dronfield sits up on the hill between Sheffield and Chesterfield, a bit more exposed than either. Wind is the main concern, especially on the west-facing elevations of properties in Dronfield Woodhouse and Coal Aston. We regularly recommend dry-fix ridges and hips on re-roofs up there.
